Il progetto editoriale monografico The Caspian Depression. A One-Straw Revolution è quello di dare visibilità alla ricerca sulla decrescita economica che Michelangelo Consani porta avanti da diversi anni, unendo un contributo specialistico e seminale come quello di Serge Latouche, ad una esaustiva lettura critica da parte di critici e curatori che hanno seguito da vicino la produzione recente in oggetto. L’apparato iconografico, oltre a documentare le tre mostre, si sviluppa in una sezione autonoma che raccoglie i tre progetti in un unico flusso di immagini. Qui la ricerca dell’artista si sviluppa visivamente trattando i tre episodi espositivi con tre parti di un’unica riflessione, che parte dalla consapevolezza occidentale rispetto all’esaurimento delle risorse fossili, rappresentata dal picco di Hubbert, per indagare figure scelte di una storia minore, che assumono qui la valenza di testimoni di altrettante alternative praticabili. Parallelamente scorre l’intervento commissionato da Kunstverein (Milano), editore del libro, basato sull’archivio dell’artista su personaggi minori della storia.

The Caspian Depression. And A One-Straw Revolution is a monographic editorial project.
The intention of the publication is to give visibility to the research on the global economic downturn, that Michelangelo Consani has been pursuing for several years, combining a specialized and seminal contribution by Serge Latouche with a comprehensive critical interpretation by critics and curators who have closely followed the recent work in question. The central chapter, documents the three exhibitions, while developing into an independent section that brings the three projects together into a single stream of images. Here, the artist’s research develops visually by treating the three exhibitions as parts of a single idea, starting with the Western world’s awareness of the depletion of fossil fuels, represented by Hubbert’s peak, and going on to investigate selected figures of a lesser-known history, who take on the significance of witnesses to an equal number of viable alternatives.
The special project commissioned by Kunstverein (Milan) to Consani is dedicated to these witnesses, collected in the artist’s archive of minor figures in history and unfolds as a personal atlas of references for this ongoing research.
