The sculptural group takes its cue from the essay “Deschooling Society” by the Austrian educational philosopher Ivan Illich, published for the first time in 1971.
In Illich’s vision, society must be de-schooled, because the school produces neither social development nor true literacy: from the traditional scholastic institution it is necessary to pass to an education based on informal networks. We must rely on autonomous learning, providing pupils with new connections with the world, rather than standard and distant educational programs.
